Failure Mechanism of Rock Specimens with a Notched Hole under Compression—A Numerical Study

Discontinuities are natural structures that exist in rocks and can affect the stability of rock structures. In this article, influence notch presence on strength failure evolution around a hole compressed specimens is investigated numerically. Firstly, uniaxial compressive test specimen with circular modeled, simulated. separate model, notches created at surface hole. Results show that, when zone transferred to distance away from addition, parametric study carried out investigate length confining pressure fracturing behavior specimen. Numerical results presented article indicate their dimensions mechanism some cases, boundary prevented certain added The insights gained numerical may be helpful control underground excavations.
